Even after you invest in a UPS and have taken the steps to ensure a continuous, safe power supply to your electrical equipment, there are times when you may need to switch back to normal utility power without suffering an interruption in power. This could be due to UPS maintenance, battery testing or capacitor refurbishment , for example.

The External Maintenance Bypass System has been developed to safely allow routine preventative maintenance, repair or investigative work or even total disconnection of the UPS to be carried out without discontinuing power to your critical load.

This enables technicians to carry out repair work during normal working hours, but mostly ensures an uninterrupted power supply in case such a switch is needed, without interruption to your equipment.

An EMBS will enable an engineer to switch from UPS power to Utility power without interruption in service, allowing for a truly integrated uninterrupted power supply with no down-time due to maintenance work.

Power will, however, become unprotected, as it is running of the utility mains, unless a second UPS has been installed.
